About Karen

I earned my Master’s degree from Saybrook University, located in San Francisco, California.  Saybrook University is a Humanistic school, and as such, I learned to focus on the strengths inherent in each individual, couple, and family.   My fundamental belief is that people are innately good and that psychological and mental problems often stem from a rigid or outdated coping system.  In therapy, I highlight each individual’s growth and emphasize the importance of self-actualization.  In couples’ therapy, there is an emphasis on learning to listen to the emotional truth of the other, while also gaining greater authenticity in expressing one’s own truth.  Through self-awareness and genuine appreciation of one another, couples can learn to re-create, or perhaps experience for the very first time, true understanding, connection, joy, and love.

Please visit my “Individual Therapy” and “Couples Therapy”  pages to learn more about how I approach individual and couple therapy.  To contact me for an appointment or for any other reason, please call and leave a confidential voicemail at (907) 727-7253, email me at kcunningham511@gmail.com, or visit my “Contact” page and fill out and submit the form.  I will get back to you within 48 hours.  Thank you!

Jasper

Jasper is an ausssiedoodle with a heart full of mischief and an impressive ability to leap onto high things. He is a master of snuggles and loves to sing along (howl along) to “Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder. Jasper has earned his Canine Good Citizen Award and continues to learn new tricks. His favorite seems to be “steal glasses and pens” to get attention. Jasper is a big part of my life and will sometimes make an appearance in my therapy sessions.
